Understanding Patchy Hair Loss

Eliminate the appearance of thinning hair

Random bald spots, otherwise referred to as patch hair loss, is not as common as genetically predisposed or postpartum balding in men and women. Sudden patchy hair loss can appear anywhere on the body, as opposed to only on the scalp.

Those who suffer from patch hair loss generally have a difficult time coping with the condition and will do whatever is necessary to mask their condition. They may wear hats, long clothing, or try to comb over the hair they do have in an attempt to hide bald spots.

The causes of patchy hair loss are not genetic and are not necessarily affected by environmental factors, either. Female patchy hair loss is just as common as instances found in male patients. One might start out experiencing this type of hair loss in one area of the body only to find after time that the condition has healed and left the area only to move to another area of the body.

So what are the causes of patchy hair loss? Some illnesses may cause this embarrassing condition, especially those that last for a period of six months or more. Fungal infections such as ringworm may also contribute to patchy hair loss, especially at the area of infection.

It is especially important to seek medical attention if you think you hair loss was caused by a fungal infection. Fungal infections can spread to other areas of the body, making your hair loss even worse. They are also highly contagoius so you will want to avoid sharing your infection with others.

Fortunately, ringworm can be treated with a topical cream prescribed by your physician. You will find your patchy hair loss clearning up as your infection disappears. Other instances of patchy hair loss will generally clear up on their own within a year.

Seek the advice of a physician if you aren't sure what is causing your patchy hair loss. Your physican may be able to recommend treatments in order to lessen the severity of your condition. Also, do not be afraid to seek counseling if dealing with patchy hair loss has become overwhelming on an emotional level.

You can promote the healing process and relatively quick hair re-growth by choosing to have a healthy diet and by participating in a regular exercise program. The vitamins and nutrients found in a proper diet will boost your immune system and help you to avoid the onset of this discouraging medical condition.
